A Haunting in Venice an oniric experience - Peckhamplex

Agatha Christie’s books are absolute classics. Characters such as Hercule Poirot such as Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple are part of the collective Imaginarium, passionate readers all over the world and not being restricted just to literature, inspiring a great amount of film adaptations. “A Haunting in Venice” is one of those inspired films and, personally, never could I imagine how it would be able to provide me such a unique experience.

“A Haunting in Venice” is based on the novel “Hallowe’en Party”, however the viewer who expects a faithful adaptation will probably be rather disappointed, considering the huge changes that were realized. It begins as a sober narrative starring Poirot, withal, at a certain point the film starts to flirt with a certain paranormal uncertainty, making the audience question which direction it could go, which is without any doubt engaging, but wasn’t what really enchanted me.

The particularity of my journey through the masterpiece was the fact that I slept at the cinema. Yes, it may sound funny or as a criticism for the film but it’s truly not, sleeping in half of the motion picture was amazing. The atmosphere cultivated by Kenneth Branagh, the director, entered my subconscient and provoked an unforgettable mystic dream that was indescribably enriching.

Still immersed in the euphoria and ecstasy that “A Haunting in Venice” left on me, I can only intensely recommend it. I hope everyone could see and pass through the same things I did, so, at the end of a tiring day, you already know what to watch.
