Laranjeiras is an alternative neighborhood, home of some noble writers, artists and illustrious people, for example, Machado de Assis, Cássia Eller, Cecília Meirelles, Claudio Portinari and Oscar Niemeyer. There are a lot of charming places, with their own identity. Here are some suggestions of places in Laranjeiras, if you want to…

1. have a coffee

  • The Coffee, a small and charming store, with delicious coffee and smiling employees.
  • Ensaio Café, with non-ordinary grains and specialized sandwiches.
  • Capitu, the ancient home of Machado de Assis, with several and delicious dishes.

2. eat out

  • Maya Café, with its pot roast and appetizing sandwiches.
  • Mamma Rosa, with distinctive pizzas.
  • Esperança Eco, a charming place with vegan cuisine and musical attractions twice a week.

3. sightsee

  • Christ, the Redeemer, a grand statue of Jesus Christ at the top of Corcovado, 709 meters above sea level, with a wonderful view of Rio de Janeiro.
  • Casa Roberto Marinho, created to present his collection of works of art, like paintings and photos that portray different aspects of Brazilian history’s culture.
