The iranian young adult urban fantasy writer, Cassandra Clare, who is most known for “The Mortal Instruments” series and “The Infernal Devices” trilogy announced that she will be present at the 40th edition of “Bienal do Livro”, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro between the 1st and 10th of September. At the event, she will release her newest novel “Chain of Thorns”, the third volume of the “The Last Hours” sequence.

Controversies: How Cassandra Clare’s books are problematic.

Although Cassie has a vast fandom, she has already been involved in several controversies, such as plagiarism and a taboo topic, incest. Cassandra started out her career writing Harry Potter fanfictions, however, her readers began to point out that she was copying parts of other people’s work and doing only small adjustments so as to fit her stories without giving proper credit. Furthermore, in 2016, the writer of the “Dark Hunter” series Sherrilyn Kenyon, filed a lawsuit against Clare declaring that the “Shadowhunter” universe is extremely similar to her own. Regarding incest, the theme is presented in the book “City of Bones”, whose plot involves relationship between Clary and Jace, who later findout they are actually siblings. This problem is usually addressed by those who read her novels, as the characters keep wanting to be together even after discovering that they are a family. Cassie does not see this as an issue though, since a little after it is explained that they are not actually related.

Even though Cassandra is seen by some as problematic, the bestselling author will be the cause of a huge attendance of fans at the event, who will not miss out on getting signed copies.
