In our country, football has always been taken seriously. However, how far would a fan go for their team?
Violence has become more and more normalized all throughout the years. Rooters bet their bottom dollar on matches and end up frustrated with defeat.
This violence has turned into a symbol of strength and power among supporters. It is as if they would avenge their side.
The problem is that for one side to win, the other has to lose. With this pattern, when teams with extremist fans play against each other, fights happen nine times out of ten.
In Brazil, football takes on dimensions that go beyond sport. The game messes with the supporters’ minds, as if their lives depended on their teams’ triumph.
Over time, the access to football became cheaper and more affordable for a population that did not have many other forms of entertainment. In this sport, they began to find a place where they belong.
That was when their extreme and uncontrollable passion began. But did it turn into fanaticism?
