On a Sunday morning (October nineteenth), four thieves invaded the famous museum, Louvre, to rob some of the most luxurious jewelry in the world.

The Louvre was closed just after the eight pieces of jewelry were stolen and reopened three days after the robbery. The jewelry

  • A tiara from the sapphire set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense;
  • A necklace from the sapphire set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense;
  • An earring (single) from the sapphire set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense;
  • An emerald necklace from the empress Marie-Louise set;
  • A pair of emerald earrings from the empress Marie-Louise set;
  • The reliquary brooch (empress Eugènie’s reliquary brooch);
  • A large corsage bow brooch of empress Eugènie;
  • A tiara from empress Eugènie, that the thieves knocked down (it was damaged).

In about seven minutes the four thieves, using a kind of mechanical elevator attached to a small truck, smashed the display cases and stole nine pieces of jewelry valued at approximately R$ 50 million.

The police continue to investigate the case. With DNA found in some things left there, they could already identify and secure two of the four thieves.

This robbery is a shame for all. It is horrible that such a thing happened with a museum, a historical and important place of admiration and learning.

And it’s unacceptable such poor security in a famous and important museum as the Louvre. How could four thieves in the middle of the day just calmly take some of the most gorgeous jewelry. A real shame.
