How can life feel and behave so differently depending merely on the day of the week? I mean, I can’t be the only one who gets this impression, right? There may be a science and logical explanation behind all this, but it does seem like utter nonsense if you think about it. Continue reading to find out more about the postponing effect!
Thankfully, I have my Monday and Tuesday free because of a holiday this week, but there was something unbearable: I had homework to do. A HUGE one. Don’t worry, I have already done it, but not at first. Instead of getting rid of the assignment as soon as I could, I tuned in to Taylor Swift’s new album “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology”, released this Friday (4/19). It didn’t bother me that I wasn’t doing my task – I would do it later, I had until Tuesday to do it, that was my excuse. Most of the time, this excuse drags on until the last hours of my proposed deadline, because I’m a procrastinator.
According to studies, the reasons behind procrastination are endless. They can go from the fear of making mistakes to overestimating the time you have left to accomplish the task. In defiance of that, some people can also postpone something because they believe they work better under pressure, even with the quality of their work being at stake. This phenomenon happens more often on the weekends since it’s, for most people, the only free time.
Balance, however, is everything. Making lists, short summaries of what you have to do is a lifesaver. You can’t remember everything all the time, so keeping track of shores is pretty useful. Are you down to rearranging your life? Try it, and in some days you’ll see how it’s like a magical spell!
