One of the most interesting books that I have read recently, “Breakfast with Seneca: a stoic guide to the art of living” became my bedside book.

The author, David Fideler, tells us that his relationship with Seneca changed in a time of crises: he almost lost a friend who tried to commit suicide. Fideler went to therapy for a while, but he believes that what helped him the most was reading the texts and the letters from Lucio Aneu Seneca every day, to try to recover physical and mental balance.

It was not a coincidence that the most famous texts from Seneca were comforting messages, written to his friends, where we can read how they can overcome pain and suffering.

What is interesting about his texts is that nothing changed very much in the last 2 thousand years concerning human beings: vanity, greed, ambition, search for luxury and unbridled consumerism, aspects of the decadent Roman elite, that are still present between us.

In the book, we can see how Seneca surpassed the worries and the anxiety, how to live a good life in any condition and how the search for perfection can contribute to a happy and prosperous life.

Despite the big interest in stoicism philosophy, no one had ever explained the lessons from Seneca to the common reader. This book can do that feat.

I hope you enjoy it!
