The Mist is a horror film directed by Frank Darabont based on the homonymous book by Stephen King. It was released in 2007 and the story takes place in a small town in Maine, USA. The movie creates a dark and tense atmosphere from the beginning when, after a violent storm, a mist covers the town, and people become trapped in a supermarket. Soon they begin to realize that strange creatures were living in the fog.
The movie follows David Drayton, who is a father trapped inside the market with his young son and other locals. People start to turn against each other and some characters try to find a way out, while others are taken by the panic. The film builds suspense until a shocking and tragic ending.
The film is extremely well directed and keeps the viewer’s attention. The performances are strong, the actor who plays David was fantastic. The visual effects were also good, making the perfect atmosphere for this kind of picture. However, the way the film develops how humans behave under fear is the best part of it.
I strongly recommend the Mist to anyone who enjoys psychological horror and intense storylines. It isn’t just a scary film, but also a reflection of how people can lose their humanity in extreme situations.
