Hi, I’m Julia and I’m ten years old, I’m a big Harry Potter fan. I’m going on a trip around the United Kingdom and Portugal to explore some Harry Potter filming locations and places that inspired the books. This tour begins in Portugal and ends in Fort William, Scotland. Let’s travel to these magical places together.

– Porto – Portugal:
This is Lello’s Bookstore, in Porto. It is a popular theory that this place inspired the interiors for Hogwarts Library.

– London – England:
King’s Cross station is an important railway station in London. It first opened in 1852. In the wizarding world, Harry and his friends get to the platform by dashing through a brick wall between platforms 9 and 10. Meanwhile the real King’s Cross platforms 9 and 10 are separated by tracks, but you can find a platform 9 3⁄4 on the wall in the station concourse.

– Oxford – England:
Explore the magical world of Harry Potter in Oxford, a fan adventure for muggles and wizards alike! Oxford is a great place to discover the secrets of Hogwards and walk the same mysterious hallways Harry, Hermione and Ron once did.

– York – England:
Popular with Harry Potter fans the world over, York’s famous medieval street shambles is said to have been the inspiration for Diagon Alley. I highly recommend the shop that must not be named. This is the original Harry Potter shop in York, and it’s located right on the shambles.

– Edinburgh – Scotland:
J.K. Rolling wrote most of the Harry Potter books in Edinburgh, Scotland. Rowling moved to Edinburgh in 1993 and once said in an interview these are the places where Harry evolved over seven books and many, many hours writing in its cafes. I highly recommend the Elephant House and the Spoon.

– Fort William – Scotland:
Witness the sweeping cinematic scenery straight out of the eight blockbuster films by booking a seat on the Jacobite Steam Train, which travels from Fort William to Mallaig along the West Highland Line. Stop for lunch in Mallaig and then make the return journey to Fort William. Please be sure to book the steam train in advance, as it is a very popular experience. It opens for the season in April.

– Freshwater West – Wales:
Freshwater West has become a Mecca for Harry Potter fans, as the location of Shell Cottage in the Deathly Hallows movies – where Dobby the house elf died and was buried. You can visit his “grave” on the beach and leave your own tribute – a definite bucket list activity for any Harry Potter heads who visit Bluestone.
