On June 29th, Saturday, the 1st edition of Festa Literária de Laranjeiras (FLILA) took place at Casa da Polônia, Laranjeiras Street, 540, between 10 AM and 9 PM, with free entering and recommended for all ages. The event was organized by Casa 11 Sebo e Livraria, a place located in the same gallery of 13 Stars, but on its other side.

It’s a project organized and developed by a group of doctors and people specialized in medicine. It has the objective to be a place of meetings, debates and talks about literature, where people can buy and read books, discover new stories, adventures and writers.

The goal of FLILA is to spread love, culture and literature. During the event, there were storytelling, debates, conversations about many different topics and presentations. The space was well divided, with one section exclusive for children’s books and space for them to play and have fun. This part was commanded by Fundação Nacional do Livro Infantil e Juvenil (FNLIJ/IBBY Brasil).

There were many stations with books from editor companies or independent authors. Some booksellers invited to the event were Jacaré Livros, Farofa Livros, Instante do Leitor and Alda Livros. There was also a big auditorium with a stage where some debates and musical presentations took place. And Esperança Eco was responsible for the gastronomy part of FLILA.

Some of the activities of the event were: presentations of poetry groups Slam Granito and Slam Afroafeto, bringing art and poetry to the public in the morning, storytelling at the children’s space, debates with many authors and specialists of different areas talking about important topics like health, literature and environment.

Many authors were giving autographs, selling their books and talking a little about its content, like Tatiana Roque, who brought her book “O dia em que voltamos de Marte” and talked about the environmental problem the planet is passing through and how the world act about it. Fátima Geovanini brought her book “Meu Vô Valente, o livreiro de Laranjeiras”, which is illustrated by Camila Carrossi.

Our reporter interviewed one of the members in Casa 11, Maria Beatriz de Almeida Serra, and she talked a little about the results of the event. She said that everyone was happy, and Casa 11 was very proud and surprised with the amount of people, more than they expected!

Beatriz also talked about some of the attractions of the day, like Leila Pinheiro’s presentation, the debate with Daniel Munduruku about indigenous values and stories, the Slam groups bringing another aspect and perspective of how to see the society and the conversation about health and literature.

She talked about the preparation and production of the event: “I think we had more correct and positive results than mistakes, we really liked it. We are 120 members at Casa 11, so we have different wishes and likes, so since the beginning we have administered that to attend to all the expectations.”

Now that Casa 11’s Instagram page is having a greater projection, ten thousand followers so far, many writers, readers, artists go to the library to talk about their experiences and share stories, dreams, projects and wishes “Now we are not just 120 people, we created a powerful network. So this edition showed us that these dreams and events are really important and worth it.”, said Beatriz.

According to Beatriz, Casa 11 really wants to do a second edition of FLILA, but there’s not a certain date yet or a decision about it. The first one was a success, with almost two thousand people circulating there, sharing culture, stories, books, experiences and literature. That’s what we need for our world, right?
