Do you know who Jorge Mário Bergoglio, known as Pope Francis, really was? He was born on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires and died on April 21 of 2025 due to a stroke (CVA) followed by an irreversible heart failure.

Before he entered the seminary he had worked as a chemical technician and lived a simple life. Afterwards, he joined the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1958, was ordained a priest in 1969 and also taught philosophy and theology. Besides, he has held leadership positions within the Jesuit order.

When he was consecrated as the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church in 2013 he also became the first Jesuit pope from Latin America and the first from the Southern Hemisphere. During his papacy, he advocated for peace, solidarity, migrant rights, and mainly for the fight against inequality. Groups such as the LGBTQIA+ community have engaged with Catholicism more than ever under his leadership.

On the whole, Pope Francis will forever remain an example for future popes, whose actions should be as meaningful and impactful as his.
