On July 26, 2025, Juliana Garcia dos Santos, 35, was violently beaten by her boyfriend, former basketball player Igor Eduardo Pereira Cabrail in the elevator of a condo in Natal, Brazil. Security footage showed him punching her over 61 times, leaving her face severely injured.

Juliana went under major surgery to try to rebuild her face, which was extremely deformed. Doctors even compared the injury to those seen in car crashes. She was discharged on Monday 4 and is now recovering at her house.

After the video of the assault went viral, Igor was quickly located and arrested by the police. Authorities charged him with domestic violence and bodily harm. Igor remains in custody while investigations continue, and the case is being closely followed by both the media and the community.

Besides that, Igor said the police beat him while he was in jail. Because of this, the police started an investigation to check what happened. They said they followed the rules and did nothing wrong. However, there is no proof that the police beat Igor.

This case is an example of femicide attempts, and how they have been getting more frequent over the years. It shows how urgent it is to strengthen the protection of women and to create real consequences for aggressors. Society must stay alert and demand justice, so that victims like Juliana can have their voices heard and be truly safe.
