Have you ever read a book written by Ziraldo? Many people know this name and it’s recognized by a lot of kids in Brazil. Ziraldo Alves Pinto was born on October 24th in 1932, in Caratinga, Minas Gerais. Throughout his life, he worked as a cartoonist, painter, dramatist and cronist. He studied law, but didn’t proceed with the career. He started working with arts, publishing his first comic in 1949. In the sequence, he worked for the newspaper “Folha de Minas”.

Ziraldo began to be recognized because of his drawings in “Jornal do Brasil” and by being one of the founders of “O Pasquim”, in 1969. In the period of the Military Dictatorship, Ziraldo suffered persecution and was arrested in 1968. His scenario changed when he published his first book for children called “Flicts”. In 1980, Ziraldo published his famous book “O Menino Maluquinho”, made with colourful and cheerful traces to illustrate the imagination and happiness of children.

Some other stories by Ziraldo are: “O Bichinho da Maçã”, “A Turma do Pererê” and “O Joelho Juvenil”. Ziraldo received awards like “Prêmio Nível Internacional do Humor”, of Brussels, in 1969 and “Prêmio Jabuti”, in 1980, for example. Ziraldo died on April 6th of 2024, but he will be always be adored by Brazilian children. Through his stories, he left lessons and values like respect, love and friendship. So, let ‘s read Ziraldo?
