Have you ever had the urge to search random questions on the internet for literally no reason? Well, that was the case when I googled what were some unusual phobias people had and it yielded me some noteworthy giggles.

Firstly, phobias may come from past incidents and traumas, factors in your childhood environment, or even genetic factors. They’re basically amplified fears, which can lead to constant anxiety and physical symptoms such as heart rate, shaking, troubled breathing and passing out. Scary, right?

Now, I hate to be inconsiderate, yet among common phobias like arachnophobia or acrophobia, there are some that are exceptionally funny… For instance, have you ever heard of Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia? That’s literally the fear of long words, and ironically one of the longest ones in the dictionary! Also ephebiphobia: the fear of adolescents! Really took the despair of meeting a group of teenagers your age at the mall to another level. Anyhow, silly looking or not, these phobias probably do exist, even though experienced by an extremely small group of people. I hope they can one day overcome them and even spend an evening creating long words with a group of teens!
