Have you ever thought about why female representation is so important in sports for girls? This representation makes young girls understand that they can do anything they want. Marta, the Brazilian footballer, for example, has shown the world her skills, but she had had no one to look up to and she had certainly heard many times that football was not the place for her. Today she is unarguably still the best women’s player and she became a great inspiration not only for girls who want to play football but also for any girl. She shows that we are capable of doing what makes us happy. Marta doesn’t hide the challenges she faced to get where she is today. She fought for equal rights which is still a problem in our society.

For her, realising everything she has achieved and the barriers she has broken must be incredible. What we can do now is honor this legacy and continue inspiring these girls.
