After more than two decades in the spotlight, LeBron James has shown the world again and again that he doesn’t use his influence only in the basketball world, but also to help the people, by raising awareness about sensitive topics, like racism and politics.
James uses his financial power and popularity to pursue change in society. In 2020 he launched a nonprofit campaign called “More than a Vote”, that reunited other athletes, celebrities and media figures. The project, in less than five months, helped recruit 40.000 electors in a variety of states, which helped Joe Biden to win.
Even on the basketball court James’ been active in social change, wearing shirts that encourage voting and, whenever possible, wearing clothes that help to attract attention to the struggles of black people. James is so active in the black community that he received the NAACP president’s award in 2021.
James’ stellar play on the basketball court also helps him get the attention needed to promote this off the court wars. When you average 25 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists for 21 years you catch the eye of the fans, he even became the first NBA player to share the court with their son.
Some people say he’s the GOAT, but everyone can agree that LeBron is extremely important in the USA, and if you don’t know him or don’t follow basketball you should give him a chance.
